Bethel School, founded in 1951 to provide
Christian education for Bethel
Church members and others in our
community, has in its mission statement, "... dedicated to
providing high-quality education in a Christian environment and
culturally diverse setting for grades preschool through eighth
grade." We provide an environment, which offers all children
the opportunity to develop and grow spiritually, intellectually,
socially, physically and emotionally.
The family is a child’s primary source of
education and development of values . Each child needs the
family's love and support as a foundation for all of his/her
accomplishments while at Bethel School. Please feel free to
e-mail, call 314-863-3111 or FAX 314-863-3393 with any questions
you might have about Bethel School.
We welcome this opportunity to work with you for
your child's spiritual and academic education.
-- Sandy Kalin, Principal

Our School Philosophy
Bethel Lutheran School seeks to nurture the spiritual,
cognitive, physical, emotional and social growth of each child according to his
or her unique abilities and challenges. Daily worship and lessons in the
Christian faith and in the Lutheran tradition, and myriad opportunities for
stewardship lead Bethel students to meaningful expressions of their
spirituality. Bethel School addresses the cognitive needs of the child with a
curriculum developed from national standards recommended by professional
organizations representing science, mathematics, social studies, language arts,
art, and music. Physical fitness and health education are included in each day’s
instruction. As part of a Christian community with a rich tradition of
diversity, Bethel Lutheran School promotes understanding and acceptance within
its community by facilitating discussion of emotional and social issues at
school and at home.
Small class size and multi-grade classrooms contribute to
Bethel’s mission of nurturing the child as a unique individual. Instruction is
focused on the developmental learning stage of each child, rather than on a
specified grade level. Multi-grade classrooms enhance the learning environment
by offering mentoring and peer tutoring opportunities. Working with the same
teacher and classmates for more than one year provides continuity and stability
for our children, and results in a comfortable, familiar learning environment.
Bethel Lutheran School is committed to creating a loving, supportive, and safe
environment for its children.

Spiritual Development
Bethel School is a Christian school. The faculty
is committed to teaching God’s Word and assisting children in
their faith development. We respond to God’s grace through daily
devotional time and mealtime prayer.
Chapel
On Monday, Wednesday and Friday every child in
preschool through 8th grade worships in the chapel from 11:30
until 11:50 a.m. Children learn a variety of hymns, prayers and
Bible stories. The Christian faith is brought to life during
these times. There is student involvement in every chapel.
Sometimes the classes lead chapel on their own. We celebrate
baptismal birthdays once a month.
Offerings
Teaching children to share and help others is
important to every early childhood program. Chapel offering is
one tangible way in which good attitudes and practices are
developed. An offering is gathered each week in envelopes sent
home each week with our newsletter, Homeward Bound.

Parent Involvement
School Visit
Parents are always welcome to visit their
child’s classroom. Please check in at the office upon your
arrival.
Parent-Teacher League
The
PTL provides many valuable services to the school community
(extra material to each classroom, special events, and computers
paid for from PTL dues and fund raisers). Parents are
wholeheartedly encouraged to participate. Call the PTL President
if you have any ideas for projects or fund raisers, or would
like to help. The phone number can be found in our school
directory (Buzz Book).
Classroom Participation
A valuable resource in any school is the great
breadth of knowledge, talents and experiences of its parent
body, and nowhere is this more valued than at Bethel School.
Mothers, fathers, grandparents and friends with interesting
skills or areas of expertise are strongly encouraged to share
their talents and interests with students in any class, not
necessarily their own child’s grade. This kind of sharing
enriches the life of the entire school.
